serum bilirubin Measurement of bile pigment in the blood
oral cholecystography. An exam where contrast media, commonly called "dye" is given orally or by mouth and x-rays are taken of the gallbladder
stool culture When feces or stool are placed in a growth medium for bacterial analysis this is known
barium enema An x-ray examination of the lower intestinal tract where a contrast medium is administered through an enema
Barium is the type of contrast media that is used for this examination.
abdominal ultrasound is when diagnostic medical sonographers utilize sound waves to image abdominal organs.
stool guaiac A laboratory test used to reveal occult blood
upper gastrointestinal series or UGI. When contrast media, usually barium, is given to a patient to drink orally in order to take x-rays of the stomach,
excretory urography. When contrast media, an iodinated concentration is injected into a vein and x-rays are taken of the urinary system,
nasogastric intubation. When a tube is inserted through the nose into the stomach
endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography or ERCP. When contrast media is injected through an endoscope and x-ray images are taken of the pancreas and bile ducts
liver biopsy The percutaneous removal of liver tissue followed by a microscopic examination
liver scan When a radioactive material is injected intravenously (through a vein) and an image is made of the material as it is taken up by liver cells, performed by a nuclear medicine technologist.
