WordMeaning
Structures the "parts" of a living thing that have special functions, which help the organism survive
Function the special "job" that a structure has within a living thing, which helps an organism survive
digestive system the group of organs that work together to break down food by physical and chemical process to make nutrients that the body can use
nervous system a group pf organs that work together that sense, transmit, and process information
excretory system the group of organs that work together to remove waste from the body
respiratory system the group of organs that help supply the entire body with oxygen and help remove carbon dioxide from the body
skeletal system the system of bones and joints that provide the body with ssupport, shape, and protection
muscular system The system, as you might have guessed, includes muscles tendons and ligaments that help the body move.
integumentary system The system that includes skin, hair, and nails, which works to protect the body
organ A group of different kinds of tissue that work together to perform a job; sometimes several work together for a common function
skeletal muscle these are attached to bones and allow them to move; you are in control of these
cardiac muscle this makes up the walls of the heart; you are NOT in control of these
smooth muscle this makes up the insides of organs (except the heart) and help organs contract, or move, and do their job
