| admixture | is a substance produced by mixing two or more substances |
| adverse reaction | denotes an unwanted or unexpected side effect or a reaction to a medication; it may also result from an interaction among two or more medication |
| aerosol | a medication dosage from that uses a gaseous substance consisting of fine liquid or solid particles |
| alcoholic | a solution that contains only alcohol as the dissolving agent |
| allergen | a substance, like pollen, that causes an allergy |
| allergic | reaction denotes sensitivity to a specific substance that is absorbed through the skin, inhaled into the lungs, swallowed, or injected |

| controlled release medications | are released and metabolized over a period of time in the body |
| controlled substance | refers to a drug with a high potential for abuse; manufacturing and distribution of these substances are regulated by the federal government to limit abuse and harm |
| corticosteroid | are substance used to prevent minor asthma attacks or to treat severe attacks |
