QuestionAnswer
What is Central Ray Angulation? The adjustment of the central x-ray tube relative to the anatomy being imaged in horizontal and vertical planes.
Define Caudal vs Cephalic Caudal is toward the TAIL (inferior) Cephalic is toward the HEAD (superior)
Define Proximal vs Distal Proximal is closer to site of attachment Distal is farther from the site of attachment
Define Ventral vs Dorsal Ventral is the FRONT (anterior) of the body Dorsal is the BACK (posterior) of the body
What does the axial skeleton consists of? Skull, vertebral column, and rib cage
What does the appendicular skeleton consists of? Limbs and Girdles
What are the human skeleton classifications? Axial skeleton Appendicular skeleton
Define Synovial (diarthrodial) Joints A type of joint that allows free movement in multiple planes
What kind of Synovial (diarthrodial) Joints are there? Ginglymus (Hinge) - flexion & extension Ellipsoidal (4 directions) - flexion, extension, abduction, & adduction Circumduction (conelike) - moves in a circle without rotation Saddle (seat) - all above ranges of motion Plane (glide) - LEAST movement
Define Grids A device that is placed between a patient and IR, & absorbs scattered radiation from reaching the Image Receptor (IR) to enhance image contrast (kVp). Required imaging body parts greater than 10 cm.
Define Automatic Exposure Control A feature in x-ray machines that automatically adjusts the radiation exposure based on patient’s anatomy & thickness. PREVENTS OVER EXPOSURE
Define mAs (Milliampere / Seconds) Controls the amount (quantity) of radiation produced by the x-ray tube. DENSITY/EXPOSURE
Define kVp (Kilovoltage) Controls penetrating ability of the x-ray beam Load & makes up the image CONTRAST/POWER
What are the stages of radiation interactions in medical imaging? HINT P.A.R.S 1. Primary Rad- Beam of photons exits the x-ray tube 2. Absorbed/Attenuation Rad- Photons alter depending on body tissues 3. Remnant Rad - Photons exits body & enters IR to produce images 4. Scatter Rad- Photons travel in diff direction (USELESS)
What routine exams requires suspended breathing? 1. AP Humerus 2. Lateral Humerus 3. Axial Clavicle
What view shows the glenoid cavity? The Grashey View

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
