What is an isotope? an element that contains the same number of protons but different number of neutrons as the original.
What is the Mitochondria responsible for? Catabolism; adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthesis; a cell’s “power plants”
What is the Golgi Apparatus responsible for? Synthesizes carbohydrate, combines it with protein, and packages the product as globules of glycoprotein
What is the function of connective tissue? Supports body structures Transports substances throughout the body
What are some examples of connective tissue? Bones Joint cartilage Tendons and ligaments Blood Fat
What is compact bone? type of bone tissue that forms the hard shell of a bone
What are melanocytes? They are colored pigments to the skin and serve to decrease the amount of ultraviolet (UV) light that can penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin.
What are the layers of the epidermis from deep to superficial? stratum basale stratum spinosum Stratum granulosum stratum lucidum stratum corneum
What are the function of the skin? protection, sensation, growth, synthesis of important chemi-cals and hormones (such as vitamin D), excretion, temperature regu-lation, and immunity
