| adhesion | the property of water that causes it to stick to other objects |
| bases | substances that contain hydroxide and have a pH over 7 |
| capillary action | water seems to climb up small tubes due to adhesion |
| cohesion | the property of water that causes it to stick to itself |
| compound | a pure substance made by chemically combining two or more elements; represented by a chemical formula |
| element | a pure substance that cannot be broken down chemically into simpler substances |
| heterogeneous mixture | a mixture that is not uniform throughout |
| homogeneous mixture | a mixture that is uniform throughout |
| pH | the measure of how acidic or basic a solution is |
| surface tension | the cohesive property of water that causes it to resist external force |
| molecule | the simplest unit of a chemical compound that can exist; formed when two or more atoms combine chemically |
| solution | a mixture of two or more substances that stays evenly mixed |
| chemical formula | represents the type and number of atoms present in a particular substance |
| chemical equation | a representation of a chemical reaction using chemical symbols, numbers, and a symbol |
| chemical reaction | the rearrangement of atoms to form new substances with different properties |
