Predict A reading strategy that involves using text clues to make a reasonable guess about what will happen next in a story.
Primary Source Refers to materials created by people who participated in or observed an event directly.
Prior Knowledge The knowledge a reader already possesses about a topic.
Propaganda A form of communication that may use distorted, false, or misleading information.
Sequential Order A pattern of organization that shows the order in which events or actions occur.
Sidebar Additional information set in a box alongside or within a news or feature article.
Signal Words Words and phrases that indicate what is to come in a text. These words help readers to discover a text’s pattern of organization and to analyze the relationships among ideas in the text.
Spatial Order A pattern of organization that highlights the physical positions or relationships of details or objects.
Summarize Briefly retell,or encapsulate, the main idea of a piece of writing in one’s own words.
Support Any material that serves to prove a claim. This could include reasons, evidence, and appeals to the needs and values of the audience.
