Unit X - Waves - Level 1

TermDefinition
Wave A disturbance that carries energy through matter or space
Wavelength Length of one wave from a point on the wave to the same point on the next wave (crest to crest or trough to trough or including one crest and one trough
Amplitude Height of a wave from resting (equilibrium) to crest or trough
Crest Top of a wave
Trough Bottom of a wave
Medium Matter through which waves travel through
Frequency Amount of waves passing a point per second, measured in Hz
Longitudinal Wave – Wave in which the motion of the particles is parallel to the motion of the wave
Transverse Wave Wave in which the motion of the particles is perpendicular to the motion of the wave
Resting Point (Equilibrium Point) The point at which there is no energy being transferred through the wave
