Unit X - Waves - Level 1
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Wave | A disturbance that carries energy through matter or space |
| Wavelength | Length of one wave from a point on the wave to the same point on the next wave (crest to crest or trough to trough or including one crest and one trough |
| Amplitude | Height of a wave from resting (equilibrium) to crest or trough |
| Crest | Top of a wave |
| Trough | Bottom of a wave |
| Medium | Matter through which waves travel through |
| Frequency | Amount of waves passing a point per second, measured in Hz |
| Longitudinal Wave – | Wave in which the motion of the particles is parallel to the motion of the wave |
| Transverse Wave | Wave in which the motion of the particles is perpendicular to the motion of the wave |
| Resting Point (Equilibrium Point) | The point at which there is no energy being transferred through the wave |
