the 14 animal/plant organelles

TermDefinition
permeable allows any molecule to go through
semi permeable Allows some molecules to go through
nucleus the brain of the cell. It controls all functions inside the cell
Cell membrane It controls what enters and leaves a cell. It acts like a barrier that allows certain things in and other not in
Cytoplasm Cytoplasm is the gel-like substance that fills the cell, providing a medium for chemical reactions to take place. It also helps to hold the organelles in place.
Mitochondria Often called the "powerhouse of the cell," mitochondria generate energy in the form of ATP through cellular respiration, providing energy for various cellular processes.
Ribosomes Ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis. They translate genetic information from mRNA into amino acid sequences to form proteins.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) The ER is a network of membranes involved in the synthesis, folding, modification, and transport of proteins (rough ER) and lipids (smooth ER). The rough ER is studded with ribosomes, while the smooth ER lacks them.
golgi apparatus the golgi apparatus it modifies and packages proteins which helps the rough ER with enzymes for both animals and plant cells
vacuole the vacuole stores water and it it much bigger in a plant cell
lysosome they are only in plant cells and they brake down food including bacteria, and old or damaged organelles
chloroplast it uses sunlight to make its own food it is also responsible for the green color in a plant
nucleose the largest part in a cell
centrioles Helps during cell division by going to the opposite ples and pulling chromosomes.
chromosomes protein that contains DNA which has coded information for making molecules in both animal and plant cells
cell wall a wall around the cell only in a plant cell to give it a strong structure.
osmosis when specifically water is diffused from a high concentration to low concentration
diffusion when molecules go from a high concentration to low concentration.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
