Schizophrenia a serious psychological disorder characterized by loss of contact with reality
Risk Factors For Men In men, symptoms typically start in the teens or 20's
Risk Factors for Women In women, Schizophrenia symptoms typically begin in the 20's or early 30's. It's uncommon for children to be diagnosed with schizophrenia and rare for those older than 45
Cause It's not know what causes this, but the researches believe that a combination of genetics and environment contributes to development of the disease
Treatment Schizophrenia is a chronic condition that requires lifelong treatment, even when symptoms have subsided. Treatment with medications and psycho social therapy can help manage the condition.
Characteristics Hallucination, Voices may tell the person what to do or comment on behavior, Delusions of grandeur, Delusion of Persecution, Thought disorder, Disorganized and confused speech, social withdrawal or loss of social skills
Paranoid Schizophrenia Characterized by delusion of grandeur, Persecution, or jealousy
Disorganized Schizophrenia Incoherent thought and Speech. These are often fragmentary or unconnected. Emotionless or showing inappropriate emotions
Catatonic Schizophrenia 1. disturbance of movement 2.Activity may slow to a stupor, and then switch to agitation 3.May hold unusual, uncomfortable body positions for long periods of times
