QuestionAnswer
How many pairs of chromosomes does humans have? 23 pairs of chromosomes
What is chromatin? It is the mixture of DNA and proteins that make up chromosomes
What are 3 parts of a DNA? DNA is made up of 3 parts: Phosphate (It provides structural support to the molecule and is the backbone of the DNA), Sugar Deoxyribose (It is simple sugars that is key component in a DNA), and 4 Nitrogeneous bases
What are 4 Nitrogeneous bases? The four bases in DNA are adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), and thymine (T). These bases form specific pairs (A with T, and G with C).
What is Codon? It is when 3 nucleotide sequence in which the order of the nitrogenous bases makes up a certain amino acid and there are 20 amino acids.
What is Nucleotide? It is a rung in the DNA which contains 2 of the Nitrogenous bases.
What is amino acid? Amino acids are molecules that combine to form proteins
What is Gene? It is a segment of DNA strand which controls certain traits of an individual.
What is Phenylketonuria? It is a disease in which the body does not have an enzyme to digest the amino acids.
What is down Syndrome? It is a disease when an embryo has an extra chromosome.
What is Huntington disease? It is a disease that affects the nerve cells so that the person loses muscles control.
What is transgenic organism? It is a genetically modified organisms whose genes are altered or genes from other species are inserted.
What is genetic engineering? It is the process of combining genes (DNA) from one organism to another.
What is Mutations? It is when the Codon sequence in the DNA strand change its order to was in. This creates an abnormality of the protein the codon makes which means the protein can not do its function properly.
What is Mutagens? It is radiations or substances that causes the genes to mutate. eg. Drugs, and smoking.
What is cloning? It is the process of creating identical genetics copies of an organism. It occurs in plants naturally eg. cuttings of an plant can grow a new plant when you root them.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
