Cell & diffusion

cells in diffusion

TermDefinition
Diffusion It is the movement of molecules from areas of high concentration to low concentration.
Permeable It allows any molecules to diffuse across the membrane
Semi-permeable It allows certain molecules to diffuse across the cell membrane.
Non-permeable It allows no molecules to diffuse across the cell wall.
Osmosis It is the movement of water molecules from high concentration of water to low concentration of water.
Nucleus Controls all the activities of the cell growth and reproduction
Cell membrane allows certain molecules to go in or out of the cell. Molecules diffuse in or out of the cell and it is made up of 2 phosphorous layers interconnected.
Cell wall Supports and protect the cell and does not allow molecules in or out
Chromosomes proteins that contains DNA which has coded information for making molecules
Rough E.R. produces and stores proteins
Smooth E.R. produces and stores fats and oil
Golgi bodies Modifies and packages proteins from rough E.R. with enzymes
Ribosomes Helps rough E.R. make proteins and is attached to rough E.R.
Centrioles Helps with cell division (mitosis) and sprinkle fibers come from there
Mitochondria Converts sugar into energy for the cell
Cytoplasm Fluid in cells and allows organelles to move around
Vacuole Stores waters, minerals and vitamins
Lysosomes Breaks down food, Invading bacteria and old/damaged organelles
Chloroplast Uses sunlight to make its own food

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
