Biomes
| Question | Answer |

| Deserts | Dry > 25cm rain per year. Hot and sandy or cold and icy. Can support life if adapted to conditions. |
| Grasslands | variety of grasses, few other trees or plants apart from near water sources. Very hot places in summer. Some extremely cold in winter. |
| Taiga (Coniferous forest) | Evergreen (pine and spruce trees), mountainous northern hemisphere. High rainfall, long winters |
| Deciduous forest | Warm, wet and mild areas, trees lose leaves in Autumn |
| Savanna | mixture of grassland and woodland, trees spread out, sunlight can get through. Grasses and animals - zebras, giraffes and lions |
| Tundra | Top of mountains, North & South Pole: Cold, harsh conditions, hard for plants and animals to survive : moss, birds and mountain goats. |
| Rainforests | Warm, wet and humid. Home to half the world’s species , lots of vegetation and trees. Animals: include sloths, howler monkeys and jaguars. |
| Mediterranean | Hot and dry like a desert, but more rain so more plants and animals : yucca, trees and cacti, coyotes, deer, lizards and jack rabbits. |
| Northern or Southern Hemisphere | Areas of the Earth either above (Northern) or below (Equator |
| Arid | Extremely dry and hot all year round. |
| Climate | Temperature, wind, humidity, snow, and rain in a place over time |
| Drought | Long periods of time without rain |

| Fauna | Animals naturally occurring in a particular area. |
| Flora | Plants naturally occurring in a particular area. |

| Organisms | A living thing, such as an animal or plant. |
| Permafrost | Ground (rock and soil) that remains frozen (below 0 ̊C) |
| Polar | Very cold and dry all year round |
| Precipitation | Water falling from clouds (e.g. rainfall, snow, hail) |
| Temperate | Cold winters and mild summers. |
| Terrain | The features of the surface of a piece of land (e.g. hilly, flat...) |
| Tropical | Hot and wet all year round. |
| Biomes | Large areas of the earth that have similar weather, climates, landscapes, animals and plants. |
