Geoscience The study of the Earth, its shape and form process, its natural resources, and the interactions of water, its ecosystem, and its role in the universe.
Renewable resources Resources that are always available or are naturally replaced in a relatively short time.
Nonrenewable resources Resources that exist in a limited amount and cannot be replaced or replenished as quickly as it’s used.
Fossil fuels Energy-rich resources made from the preserved remains of organisms.
Coal A solid fossil fuel formed from the remains of ancient plants around swampy areas.
Oil A liquid fossil fuel formed from the remains of small marine animals, algae, and other marine organisms.
Natural gas A gaseous fossil fuel formed from the remains of small marine animals, algae, and other marine organisms.
Nuclear energy Potential energy stored in the nucleus of an atom.
Solar energy Radiant light energy from the sun.
Hydroelectric energy Energy generated by moving water to make electricity.
Geothermal energy Heat energy from inside the Earth.
Minerals A non-living crystal solid substance made from a combination of elements.
Ore A very large and valuable mineral deposit extracted from the ground.
Desalination The process of removing salt and minerals from saltwater to make freshwater.
