In early adulthood there are much more ___ experiences and development. What does this mean? Varied. -Idiosyncratic events: Not anticipated, not shared with others create lots of stress (i.e. Spouse or child dies, lose jobs, win lottery).
What are some normative events for young married and late adulthood? Marriage, starting a family, raising children, retiring from work.
What are the three aspects of age? 1.) Biological: Life expectancy, health. 2.) Social: Individual's current status to cultural norm- 35 year old in college. 3.) Psychological: Adapt to new demands in environment- intelligence, learning ability.
What are the three types of attachment? 1.) Secure Attachment Style: Positive views of relationships, easy to get relationships. 2.) Avoidant Attachment: Hesitant about getting involed romantically. Tend to distance self. 3.) Anxious Attachment: Demand closeness. Less trusting, more emotions.
What is the Matching Hypothesis? Although might prefer a more attractive person in the abstract, end up with a person who matches our own level of attractiveness.
True or false: Intimacy requires sexual interactions. False. Requires self-disclosure, common interest, sharing private thought.
