dormant when an animal's normal functions are slowed down or paused for a period of time as if in a deep sleep.
photosynthesis the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy into chemical energy, storing it as sugars (how a plant makes food)
herbivore animals that eat plants
producer these begin food chains which feed all life, they are eaten by other animals and produce their own food.
onmivore animals that eat both plants and meats (other animals)
carnivore animals that only eat meat (other animals)
ecosystem a system where living and nonliving things interact
consumer this eats other organisms for food.
food chain the transfer of energy from one organism to another.
decomposer a kind of organism that removes animal waste and dead plants from the environment
algae a plant, that uses photosynthesis to produce its own food
climate the average weather of a large region over a long time.
hibernation when an animal becomes less active during the winter
migrate when animals move in large groups to warmer regions in the fall season and back north during the spring
prairie a grassland ecosystem with hot summers and cold winters
flat teeth the trait that herbivores have to help them grind up tough plants
