Ecosystems and Managing Ecosystems
| Term | Definition |

| Abiotic factors | non-living elements of the environment that influence the way that organisms and ecosystems function |
| Biotic | living factors in the environment; related to, produced by, or caused by living organisms |
| Ecosystem | a community of interacting living organisms and the physical environment that they live in |
| Food Web | a representation of several overlapping food chains in an ecosystem; includes the flow of energy from the Sun through producers to consumers and decomposers through multiple pathways |
| Fossil | the impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in rock |
| Fossil evidence | information about long ago based on similarities in a collection of fossils from the same geographical area |
| Survive | continue to live or exist |
| Conservation | prevention of wasteful use of resources |
| Disposal | throwing away or getting rid of products no longer needed |
| Environmental Impact | a condition that results in a change to the biotic or abiotic factors of an ecosystem |
| Healthy Ecosystem | multiple populations of different organisms that are all able to consistently meet their needs |
| Natural Resource | anything found in nature that can be used by humans |
| Recycle | the process of taking materials ready to be thrown away and converting (changing) them into reusable materials |
