Unit 3 Vocabulary for science
| Term | Definition |

| Tilt | a sloping position or movement |
| Rotation | The movement of the Earth on its own axis |
| Revolution | The movement of the Earth around the Sun in a fixed orbit. |
| Axis | an imaginary line around which a body rotates |
| Solar Energy | radiant energy emitted by the Sun |
| Orbital Plane | All planets orbit around Sun. all orbits line up with each other making a kind of flat disk called orbital plane |
| Seasons | Each of four divisions of the year are marked by particular weather pattern and daylight hours due to the changing position of the Earth |
| Tide | A daily rise and fall of the ocean water along the coastline. |
| Summer Solstice | The solstice that marks the onset of summer, at the time of longest day, June 21 in Northern hemisphere and December 22 in Southern hemisphere |
| Winter Solstice | The solstice that marks the onset of winter at the time of shortest day, December 22 in the Northern hemisphere and June 21 in the Southern hemisphere. |
| Autumn Equinox | The time when Sun crosses the plane of Earth’s equator making day and night of equal length September 22 |
| Spring Equinox | In Northern hemisphere the spring or vernal equinox happens around March 21 when the Sun moves north across the equator |
| Lunar Eclipse | It occurs when the moon passes directly behind Earth and into its shadow. It can occur only on the night of the full Moon |
| Solar Eclipse | When moon comes in between Earth and the Sun and shadow caused by Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun |
