Where does it come from? german/ italy after WW1 where ppl were left impoverished. researcher found that impoverished classes werent rising up against these oppressive leaders but submit more ppl develop anxiety to the oppression and continue to not stand up (mussolini)

right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and authoritarianism of the left (LWA) Have extremely similar overall values - lower efficiency (mistrust govt) -Foreign isolation (othering and working with other could take away from power and toughness)
Authoritarian tendencies in the American public (war on terror) most willing to say censor media and invade peoples privacy b/c they believe they don't do anything wrong and need to catch those who do, do something wrong They love othering ppl --> high A. voting for trump in 2016 when campaign was anti mexicans
Milgram experiments What are/were they reseracher after numberg trial, was like no one would just follow order to harm someone just b/c someone in power told them too Study: had people inflict harm with electric shock on a person in another room when told by a scientist (authority figure)
