Forces & Motion 2
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What demonstration did we do to help understand force distribution? | A balloon on a bed of nails vs a balloon with a single nail bed |
| Is force distribution helpful in increasing the magnitude of force at a particular point, or decreasing magnitude of force at a particular point? | Decreasing - it spreads out the force from one point, to multiple |
| Why would you want to use cushioning substrates for an egg drop? | To prevent the egg from breaking |
| When is the sum of forces used? | When comparing the forces involved in a collision - unbalanced forces will cause force changes. |
| How do you find the sum of forces? | By adding up all of the forces involved. Though there are force pairs, there can be multiple force pairs in a collision. |
| What is an example of a collision? | Any set of objects interacting (book hits floor, ball hits backboard, person 1 pushes person 2, walking, tapping a cane, etc.) |
| Is the winning team of a tug of war challenge an example of: unbalanced forces or balanced forces? | Unbalanced - one team exerts more force than another in order to win |
| Is this example one that highlights force distribution or variables? EXAMPLE: THE MASS OF SNOW PILED UP ON A ROOFTOP | force distribution |
| Is this example one that highlights balanced or unbalanced forces? EXAMPLE: 5 NEWTONS OF FORCE ARE APPLIED TO THE SCALE AND IT MOVES DOWNWARD | unbalanced force |
| Are beards an example of human evolution and inertia, or human evolution and cushioning? | cushioning |
