CIBME? Light Waves
Light Waves
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Light | forms of moving energy made of tiny microscopic particles |
| Opaque | an object that does not let any light through it |
| Translucent | an object that does allow some light through it |
| Transparent | an object that allows ALL light through it |
| Reflection | the bouncing back of an object or a wave when it hits a surface through which it cannot pass |
| Refraction | the bending of light waves as they enter a new medium at an angle, caused by a change in speed |
| Diffraction | the bending or spreading of waves as they move around a barrier or pass through an opening |
| Absorption | The process of one material (absorbate) being retained by another (absorbent) |
| Transmission | when waves pass through a given point or medium |
| Scattering | when light bounces off a rough and bumpy surface in multiple different directions; a change in the direction of motion of a particle |
| Optical Illusion | a visual stimuli that is perceived by the eyes and then comprehended by the brain in a way that is different from reality |
| Direct Path | a wave which travels directly from the source of light to the detectors without being reflected off or refracted |
| Angle of Incidence | an angle made by a light ray or wave hitting a surface (going "in") |
| Angle of Reflection | an angle made by a light ray or wave leaving a surface (going "out") |
