wave a repeating disturbance that transfers energy through matter or space​
longitudinal wave The particles move parallel to the direction of energy transport​

amplitude The maximum extent of a vibration

mediums solids, liquids, gasses, vacuum
sound wave speed in different mediums slowest in a vacuum, fastest in a solid
Electromagnetic wave speed in different mediums fastest in a vacuum, slowest in a solid
crest (part of a wave) the highest point of a wave
trough (part of a wave) the lowest point of a wave
Electromagnetic waves transverse waves that do NOT require a medium
Electromagnetic spectrum a range of electromagnetic radiation
transparent Matter that allows almost all the light to pass through​
translucent Matter that allows some light to pass through
opaque Matter that does not let any light pass through it​
refraction The bending, or changing direction of light as it changes speed in a new medium
reflection is when light bounces off a surface
absorption when light transfers its energy to matter and the added energy increases the temperature of matter
