TermDefinition
What are Roots? Provide support to the plant by anchoring it in the ground. Take in water and dissolved nutrients.
What is a Stem? It provides structure for the other parts of the plant. Also acts as an elevator to move liquids and nutrients all throughout the plant.
What are Leaves? They create the food (glucose) that the plant will use to get its nutrients and stay alive.
What ingredients do Leaves need to make food? Sunlight, Air (carbon dioxide), and Water
How does Gravity affect roots, stem, and leaves? Roots grow downward with the pull of gravity. While stems and leaves overcome gravity and grow towards the sunlight.
What is Seed Dispersal? The process of moving seeds to a new location so that it has room to grow.
How are seeds dispersed? Wind, water, and animals
What are Flowering Plants? Plants with seeds OR fruit.
What are some examples of Flowering Plants? Roses, violets, daisies, oak trees, apple trees, and orange trees.
What are Nonflowering Plants? Plants with cones OR spores.
What are some examples of Nonflowering Plants? Ferns, Mosses, Pine Tree, Rudbeckia Plant, Slash Pine and Firs (cones with seeds)
What are the stages of Complete Metamorphosis? Egg, larva, pupa and adult
What are the stages of Incomplete Metamorphosis? Egg, nymph and adult
What is the life cycle of a Flowering Plant? Fruit, seed, germination, seedling, adult flowering plant
