Types of Energy
| Term | Definition |

| Energy | the ability to do work |
| Potential Energy | stored energy |
| Kinetic Energy | motion energy or working energy |
| The Law of Conservation of Energy | energy can never be created or destroyed, but it can change forms |
| Heat / Thermal Energy | energy that moves from warmer objects to colder objects |
| Light | energy that travels in waves away from its source, and can bounce off of objects into our eyes |
| Sound | energy that travels in waves making matter vibrate, including making our eardrums vibrate |
| Electricity | energy that is the flow of electrons (which are the outer parts of atoms) |
| Chemical Energy | energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules. When you burn wood or digest food you release this energy from the bonds. |
| Fossil Fuel | source of energy taken from underground that resulted from things that were alive a very long time ago. The most common three are oil, coal, and natural gas. |
| Gasoline | a liquid that is usually made from oil taken from underground |
