What are the 9 components of rehab program (most to least important) Controlling swelling, controlling pain, range of motion, core stability, muscles, neuromuscular control, balance, cardio fitness, functional/sport specific progression, modalities
Controlling swelling Immediate action; critical. Use PRICE. Compression over ice
Controlling pain Follow PRICE; assess injury extent; treat or refer. NSAIDs, ice, heat, electrical stimulation
Range of motion Restore joint movements. Address muscle/tendon guarding, ligament exercises. Use therapeutic exercises and stretching
Core stability Crucial for rehab. Stabilizes kinetic chain. Assess and establish core strength first
Muscles Strengthen with isometric, resistive, plyometric exercises. focus on range of motion and pain first
Neuromuscular control Mind-body connection. requires CNS for coordination. Re-teach functional movements
Balance Ensure postural stability. Prevents further injuries or reinjury
Cardio fitness Maintain cardio without pain (cycling, elliptical, pool workouts). Vital for rehab process
Functional/Sport specific progressions Necessary for sport return. Ensure movement capability. Use functional testing
Modalities Tools used to help in the recovery process (with ice and heat)
