words for the first week of science

QuestionAnswer
physical science the study of matter and energy
scientific method a series of steps that a scientist use to answer questions and solve problems
technology the appliance of knowledge, tools, and matter to solve problems and accomplish tasks; technology can disorder to the object used to accomplish tasks
observation any use of the senses to gather information
data any piece of information acquired through experimentation
theory a unifying explanation for a broad range of hypotheses and observations that have been supported by testing
law a summary of many experimental results and observation; a law tells how things work
model a representation of an object or system
volume the amount of space that something occupies or the amount of space that something contains
mass the amount of matter that something is made of
temperature a measure of how hot (or cold) something is; specifically a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object
area a measure of how much surface an object has
density the amount of matter given space; mass per unit volume
