| land boom | a sudden increase in both the demand for and the price of land |
| profit | When you sell something for more money than it originally cost |
| loss | when you sell something for less money than it originally cost |
| stocks | shares or portions of ownership in a companies |
| stock market | a place where stocks are bought and sold |
| loan | Money lent to someone; often from the bank |
| depression | a time when business activity is slow and many people are unemployed |
| unemployed | out of work |
| relief | aid given to someone in need |
| New Deal | President Roosevelt's federal program that created jobs and set up laws to make both the banking system and the stock market safer |
| Holocaust | The murder of millions of Jewish people and other groups by the Nazi's in Germany during WWII |
| rationing | a time when the amount of food or supplies that can be purchased is is limited by the government |
| saboteur | someone who secretly destroys property or carries out harmful actions against an enemy |
