| Term | Definition |

| Anecdote | a short personal story used to make or support a larger point, usually in the beginning of an argumentative text |
| Argument | a discussion involving different points of view; debate |
| Argumentative text | a text in which the writer develops and defends a position or debates a topic using logic and persuasion |
| Audience | the intended target group for a message |
| Claim | a position on a topic or issue |
| Credibility | the quality of having reliable, trustworthy, and believable characteristics/ information |
| Evidence | specific details or facts that support an inference or idea |
| Plagiarize | to present the ideas or word of another as one’s own without crediting the source |
| Primary source | a source from when an event occurred and created by someone who was present at the event (for example a diary or autobiography) |
| Secondary source | a source that has information based on a primary source, but was written at a later time by someone one not involved (for example a biography) |
| Stereotyping | a mistaken idea or belief many people have about a thing or group (it is often considered to be unkind or rude) |
