Academic Vocabulary for FSL / English 093

dire Extremely serious or urgent.
plight A dangerous, difficult, or otherwise unfortunate situation.
contradict To state the opposite of something.
rational Based on reason or logic.
neutral Not supporting or helping either side in a conflict or disagreement.
subsequent Coming after something in time; following.
reject To dismiss as inadequate, unacceptable, or faulty.
perceive To become aware of something through the senses.
apparent Clearly visible or understood; obvious.
emphasis Special importance or value given to something.
