| Axial Skeleton is composed of | skull, vertebral column, ribs, sternum, hyoid bone, sacrum, and coccyx |
| Appendicular skeleton is composed of | bones of the limbs, shoulder, pelvis |
| Proximal | towards the trunk of the body/ nearest the point of origin of body part |
| Distal | away from the trunk of the body or point of origin |
| Medial | towards the midline of the body |
| Lateral | towards the side of the body/ away from the midline |
| Anterior (Ventral) | Front or in front of/ towards the belly |
| Posterior (Dorsal) | Back or in back of/ towards the back |
| Superior | Towards the head |
| Inferior | Towards the feet |
| Anatomical Position | body erect (standing) posture with arms at the sides and palms forward with head and feet pointing forwards |
