Gastrointestinal Meds Pharmacological Actions

ondansetron blocks 5-HT3 serotonin receptors

metoclopramide blocks dopamine receptors
polyethylene glycol draws water into the intestines
docusate sodium changes the surface tension of still and causes decrease in fluid absorption by the large intestine
diphenoxylate with atropine, loperamide decreases intestinal peristalsis to increase transit time
sulfasalazine immunosuppressive (helps with inflammation)
