AT Legislation

TermDefinition
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004) Ensures that students with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). IDEA mandates that assistive technology (AT) be provided if necessary for a student to access their education.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, 1990) A civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all public and private spaces open to the general public.
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973) Prohibits discrimination based on disability in federally funded programs and services, including schools
