transpiration evaporation of water out of small holes, or pores, in the leaves of plants
accumulation water that collects on the top surface of the earth in streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes; above ground water
closed water system a system that cannot get water from anywhere else; the water on earth is the same water that has been on earth for billions of years
cycle a continuous series or chain of events with no beginning or end
infiltration when water enters and soaks the top layers of the ground
percolation when water moves down through deeper layers of soil and into the rocky layers
