Glucose the form of sugar that circulates int he bloods and provides the major source of energy for body tissues
Ghrelin a hunger-arousing hormone secreted by an empty stomach
Leptin protein hormone secreted by fat cells; when abundant causes brain to increase metabolism and decrease hunger
Orexin Hunger-triggering hormone secreted by hypothalamus
PYY Digestive tract hormone; sends “im hungery” signals to brain
Insulin Hormone secreted by pancreas; controls blood glucose
Lateral hypothalamus the region of the hypothalamus that may be involved in the regulation of eating
Ventromedial hypothalamus the part of your body that makes you feel full after you've eaten
Set point The point at which your “weight thermostat” may be set
Basal metabolic rate The body’s resting rate of energy output
Arousing appetite when watching an intense action movie doubled snacking
Friends and food when you eat more with friends, the presence of others tends to amplify our natural behavior tendencies
Serving size is significant when given a bigger plate or bigger utencils people tend to eat more, portion size matters
Selections stimulate food variety also stimulates eating
Nudging nutrition when a school put a tray of fruits and vegetables up front and spreads the main dish out in a shallow compartment to make it look bigger
Obesity defined as a body mass index measurement of 30 or higher
Obesity and psychical health risks diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, gallstones, arthritis, and certain cause of cancer
Obesity and depression increase depression (especially in women)
3 physiological factors of obesity Storing fat was adaptive, set point and metabolism matter, and genes influence us
