TermDefinition
Stomata Small opening on the underside of a leaf through which oxygen, water, and carbon dioxide can move. (plural: stomata)
Transpiration The process of which water is lost through a plant's leaf.
Embryo 1. The young organism that develops from a zygote. 2. A developing human during the first eight weeks after fertilization. has occurred.
Flower The reproductive structure of an angiosperm.
Pollination The transfer of pollen from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures in plants.
Describe the 3 functions of roots. Roots anchor in the ground, absorb water, and sometimes store food.
Describe the 2 functions of stems. The stem carries substances between the plants roots and leaves. The stem also provides support for the plant’s and hold up the leaves so they are exposed to the sun.
Describe the function of leaves Leaves capture the sun's energy and carry out the food – making process of photosynthesis.
Describe the 3 basic parts of a seed. Inside a seed is a particular developed plant. If a seed lands in an area where conditions are favorable, the plant sprouts of the seed and begins to grow.
What are 3 ways a seed can be dispersed. When animals eat them, seeds can be the hook on onto fur or clothing, and water.
Be able to label the structures of a flower.
Know what each part of the flower does. A typical flower contains sepals, petals, stamens, and pistils.
