Question, TermAnswer, Definiton
Stomata Small openings, or pores called stomata open and close to control when gases enter and leave the leaf
Transpiration Water evaporates from a plant’s leaves is called transpiration
Embryo The young plant that develops from the zygote, or fertilized egg, is called the embryo
Germination Germination occurs when the embryo begins to grow again
Flower A typical flower contains contains sepals, petals, stamens , and pistils
Pollination Pollination is the transfer of pollen from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures
Describe the the 3 functions of roots Roots anchor a plant in the ground, absorb water and minerals from the soil, and sometimes store food
Describe the two functions of stems The stem carries substances between the plant’s roots and leaves. The stem also provides support for the plant and holds up the leaves so they are exposed to the sun
Describe the function of leaves Leaves capture the sun’s energy and carry out the food-making process of photosynthesis
Describe the three basic parts of a seed The three basic parts of a seed are Stoma Cuticle Chloroplasts
Three ways a seed can be dispersed After seeds form, they are usually scattered. The scattering of seeds is called seed dispersal
Know and be able to label the structures of a flower A typical flower contains sepals, petals, stamens, and pistils
Know what each part of the flower does Sepals protect the developing flower mostly green When the sepals fold back, they reveal the flower’s colorful, leaflike petals The stamens are the male reproductive parts The sticky tip of a pistil connects the stigma to part of the flower
