| clause | a group of words containing a subject and a predicate and functioning as a member of a complex |
| phrase | a word or group of words that does not include a subject AND predicate |
| predicate | the part of the sentence or clause that expresses what is said of the subject and usually consists of a verb with or without objects |
| modifier | a word or phrase makes specific the meaning of another word or phrase |
| sentence | an array of words in a very specific order including a subject and a predicate ending with punctuation |
| abstract | expressing a quality apart from an object |
| metaphor | a figure of speech witch a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or anology |
| simile | a figure of speech comparing two unlike things using like or as |
| hyperbole | exggeration!!! |
| personification | giving a nonhuman object human traits |
| thesis | it is the main idea of the essay ( like a GPS) |
| conclution | the final summerization of the essay |
| introduction | to introduce somthing |
| topic sentence | the sentence that states the main thought of a writing |
| transition | to change or shift from one thing to another |
| dialogue | in a writing when two or more characters talk in a conversation |
| monalogue | a dramatic sketch performed by one actor |
| stage direction | telling an actor where to move on the stage or to pick something up ECT |
| aside | a line or lines said but not heard by rest of actors (thought) |
| drama | a composition in a verse or prose intended to portray life or characters to tell a story usually involving conflicts |
| subordinating conjunction | a word that combines a dependent clause with an independent clause |
| dependent clause | a clause that does not form a simple sentence by itself and is connected to the main clause of a sentence |
| independent clause | a clause that could be used by itself as a simple sentence but that is a part of a larger sentence |
| relative clause | an adjective clause introduced by a relative pronoun expressed by a relative adjective or a relative adverb |
| complex sentence | C.S=dep. clause +,+ indep. clause OR C.S.= indep. clause +dep clause |
