| chemical change | Any change that causes a new substance to be formed |
| condense | When gas releases energy, its temperature goes down until it changes to a liquid |
| dissolve | To mix, or cause to mix, with a liquid so that the result is a liquid that is the same throughout |
| evaporate | When a liquid takes in energy, its temperature rises until it changes to a gas |
| gas | The state of matter where the particles are very far apart, move in all directions, and fills all the available space it is in |
| liquid | The state of matter where the particles move easily past each other and take the shape of the container it is in |
| matter | Anything that takes up space and has mass |
| mass | The measure of the amount of matter in an object |
| mixture | A combination of two or more substances that keep their identities. |
| physical change | A change in the shape or appearance of an object. |
| solid | The state of matter where the particles have a definite shape and volume |
