| kinetic | energy that an object has because of its motion |
| potential | the energy an object has because of its position; also the internal stored energy of an object |
| Gravational | potential energy that depends on the height of an object |
| Elastic Potential | the energy associated with objects that can be compressed or stretched |
| Mechanical | the form of energy associated with the motion, position, or shape of an object |
| Nuclear | stored in the nucleus of an atom; energy is released during a nuclear reaction |
| Thermal | the total energy of the motion of all the particles of an object |
| Electrical | the energy of electric charges |
| Chemical | the potential energy stored in chemical bonds; found in the foods we eat and in our body’s cells |
| Electromagnetic | a form of energy that travels through space in waves |
| ENERGY TRANSFORMATION | a change from one form of energy to another |
| LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY | states that when one form of energy is transformed to another, no energy is lost in the process |
| EXOTHERMIC | a change in which energy is given off; energy is released |
| ENDOTHERMIC | a change in which energy is absorbed (taken in) |
