| Recognition | trying to remember is more difficult in older adults |
| Cross-sectional study | research that compares people of different ages at the same point in time |
| Longitudinal study | research that follows and retests the same people over time |
| Neurocognitive disorder | acquired disorders marked by cognitive deficits (dementia) |
| Alzheimer's disease | a neurocognitive disorder marked by neural plaques |
| Social clock | the culturally preferred timing of social events such as marriage, parenthood, and retirement |
| Intimacy | a relationship in which the individuals must both have feelings of trust and emotional closeness toward each other |
| Generativity | willingness to engage in acts that help the wellbeing of younger generations |
| Integrity | the quality of moral consistency, honesty, and truthfulness with oneself and others |
