| Trait | A specific characteristic that an organism can pass to its offspring through its genes. |
| Gene | A sequence of DNA that determines a trait and it passed from parent to offspring. |
| Inheritance | The process by which an offspring receives genes from its parents. |
| Pollination | The process of transferring pollen from male reproductive structures to female reproductive structures in plants. |
| Cones | The reproductive structures of gymnosperms. |
| Ovule | The plant structure holding the egg cell. |
| Fruit | The ripened ovary and other structures of an angiosperm enclosing one or more seeds. |
| Germination | The sprouting of an embryo out of a seed. |
| Behavior | The way an organism reacts to changes in its internal conditions or external environment. |
| Instinct | A response to a stimulus that is inborn and that an animal performs correctly the first time. |

| Metamorphosis | Major body changes as an organism grows and develops. |
