Gravity in Motion
7th Grade Unit 14
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Solar System | consists of the Sun and everything that orbits, or travels around, the Sun |
| Gravity | a force that pulls objects towards each other |
| Law of Universal Gravitation | states that every particle attracts every other particle in the universe with a force that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers. |
| Mass | a measure of how much matter is in an object |
| Weight | a measure of how heavy something is, or the force of gravity acting on an object |
| Inertia | the tendency of an object to resist changes in its state of motion |
| Orbit | the curved path that one object takes while circling around another object in space |
| Rotate | to turn or cause something to turn in a circle, especially around a fixed point |
| Counter-Clockwise | in the opposite direction to the way in which the hands of a clock move around. |
| Air Resistance | a force that acts opposite to the motion of an object moving through the air, |
| Vacuum | a space completely devoid of matter, meaning there is no air or particles present within it; essentially, an empty space |
