What is classification? Organizing things into groups based on how they are alike.
What is a kingdom? The largest group of classifying living things.
What are species? The smallest group for classifying living things.
What are vertebrates? The group of animals with a backbone.
What are invertebrates? The group of animals without a backbone.
What does nonvascular mean? The group of plants without roots, stems, and leaves.
What does vascular mean? The group of plants with roots, stems, and leaves.
What are xylem? Tissue that carries water and nutrients from the root to the rest of the plant.
What is phloem? Tissue that carries food from a plant's leaves to other parts of the plant.
What is a spore? A single reproductive cell that can grow into a whole new plant.
Which animal group has the greatest number of species, vertebrates or invertebrates and why? Invertebrates because insects are invertebrates and there are many species of insects.
What is the most important difference between the plant kingdom and the animal kingdom? Animals have to find and eat food; plants make their own food.
Are plants that can grow to be quite large vascular or nonvascular? Vascular
Are plants that stand up tall vascular or nonvascular? Vascular
Are plants that absorb water from their environment through their cells vascular or nonvascular? Nonvascular
Are plants that have xylem and phloem to carry water and nutrients vascular or nonvascular? Vascular
Are plants that make their own food vascular or nonvascular? Both vascular and nonvascular

What kind of plant always reproduces with spores? Nonvascular
What is the difference between a deciduous plant and a coniferous plant? Deciduous shed their leaves every year and coniferous do not shed their leaves every year (they are pine trees).
