Force and Motion
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| friction | a force opposes the motion of another object; making the object slow down, or giving it traction to get moving |
| gravity | the force that pulls down, a force that pulls 2 objects together |
| mass | the measure of the amount of matter in an object, on Earth it is the same as weight. |
| matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space, stuff that makes up a thing. |
| acceleration/force relationship | the more force you apply, the greater the acceleration or speed |
| acceleration/mass relationship | the greater the mass, the more force necessary to get an object to accelerate or move |
| momentum | how difficult it will be to stop an object; |
| weight | is a measure of gravitational force between earth and an object, on Earth this is the same as mass |
| speed | distance divided by time |
| balanced forces | do not change speed or direction |
| unbalanced forces | do change speed or direction |
| potential energy | stored energy |
| kinetic energy | released energy, energy in motion |
| Inertia | resistance to change in motion |
| force | a push or a pull |
| Distance | The length of a path between two points |
