Light Energy

QuestionAnswer
light A form of energy that can be seen.
prism An object that separates white light into bands of colored light. (It refracts light.)
transparent When light strikes some materials, almost all of the light goes through it.
translucent When light strikes other materials, only some of the light passes through it.
opaque When none of the light that strikes an object gets through the object.
refraction The bending of light as it passes from one material to another. When light goes through glass, water, or clear plastic or when light moves from cold air into warm air.
reflection The term for any wave that hits a surface and bounces off.
medium Substances of different densities through which light energy travels and changes. Like water, glass, plastic, paper, etc...
black Absorbs all white light (collects heat).
white Reflects all white light (reflects heat).
color We see red because an object absorbs all colors but red. We see red because it is the only color being reflected back to our eyes.
