| What is a property of matter? | A characteristic that can be measured or observed about a substance |
| What is a mixture? | A substance with two or more substances mixed together |
| What is the difference between homogeneous and heterogenous mixtures? | A heterogeneous mixture has unevenly mixed components. A homogeneous mixture has components that are blended evenly throughout. |
| What is a solution? | A mixture with substances that can't be seen without a microscope AND will never settle on the bottom |
| Does a solution have to be a liquid? | No, it does not. Solutions can be gases and solids. |
| What are the parts of a solution? What does each part do? | Solute is the part that dissolves (seems to disappear) Solvent is the part that acts on the solute to dissolve it. |
| What is a physical change? | A change is state of matter where no substance is added or taken away. The original substance is unchanged. example: melting ice, chopping up a carrot |
| What is a chemical change? | When a new substance is created thru a chemical reaction. example: digesting food, burning wood, metals rusting |
| What are some tools that we can use to separate a mixture? | filtration, evaporation, distillation, crystallization |
