what is the generation effect? better memory for items that are more actively processed initially
what is metacognition? knowledge about one's thinking and memory
how does metacognition help? it helps select the reading strategies that you know will help you best learn and remember information.
what is metacomprehension? knowledge of your understanding of what you're reading
how does metacomprehension help? it helps sort out what you understand while reading and what you may need to revisit.
how is practice testing an effective studying tactic? it helps are you are recalling information whether it be flashcards or completing practice problems
how is distributed practice an effective studying tactic? the study sessions are being distributed evenly over time so it helps retain information
how is self explanation an effective studying tactic? you are explaining the information to yourself in your own words and thinking how the information fits with other things you've read.
what is the theory of planned behavior? a theory that explains changing motivation in order to complete a behavior
what are attitudes? any thoughts and feelings a person has about a given behavior
what are norms? how the behavior is viewed amongst a group of people
what are behavioral controls? whether a person can actually do the behavior, or believes they can do the behavior, given opportunity or ability.
what factors make up the causal model for the theory of planned behavior? attitudes, norms, behavioral control and intent to behave.
