net price The out-of-pocket cost of attending college after accounting for financial aid. This is the realistic cost.
accreditation Any school you attend should have this status from an agency recognized by the US Department of Education.
associate's A degree earned after two years at community college.
work study A financial aid program that allows students to earn money while employed on college campus.
public Status of a college that is government funded, typically larger campuses with many programs.
SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) A test accepted by colleges that is 2h14 long with reading, writing and language, and math sections.
scholarship This financial aid requires an application and maybe an essay, and you don’t pay it back.
doctorate A degree earned after about 8 years of university; low unemployment and high pay.
federal or private loans This is financial aid that must be paid back.
net price calculator A device that can help you determine the realistic cost of attending your dream college.
Bright Futures This financial aid is available to Florida students and pays either 100% or 75% of college costs.
for-profit The status of a college where money is made for shareholders or a business.
ACT (American College Test) A test accepted by colleges that is 2h55 long with science, math, English, and reading sections. Can include an essay.
sticker price This is the listed, upfront cost of attending college.
master's A degree earned after about six years at university.
CLT (Classical Learning Test) A test accepted by some colleges that is 2h long with verbal reasoning, grammar/writing, and quantitative reasoning sections.
unaccredited Credits, degrees, and certificates issued by this type of school are essentially worthless outside of that school.
private A college that is funded by tuition and fees, generally smaller, and sometimes religion-affiliated.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) The application you complete for eligibility to receive federal financial aid for college.
ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) A test accepted by the military that is 3h18 long with verbal, spatial, math, science and technical sections.
bachelor's A degree earned after four years at college or university.
no high school diploma A level of education with high unemployment and low pay.
grants This financial aid is gift aid for those in need. No repayment.
non-profit The status of a college where money is funneled into education programs.
diploma A degree earned after four years of high school.
