TermDefinition
Rectus abdominis located in the midline of the abdomen and helps with trunk flexion.
External oblique located diagonally downward and medially, helping with trunk rotation and lateral flexion
Internal oblique located diagonally downward and medially, helping with trunk rotation and lateral flexion
Transverse abdominis runs horizontally, and helps provide deep abdominal compression and stability
Sympathetic nervous system It prepares the body for quick response by increasing heart rate, dilating pupils, increasing blood flow to the muscles, and releasing adrenaline, providing the energy and focus needed for survival.
Parasympathetic nervous system helps the body relax and recover after the threat has passed, promoting digestion
Anterior Lobe located at the base of the brain and the hormones that are secreted is Adrenocorticotropic hormone, Thyroid stimulating hormone, Follicle stimulating hormone, Luteinizing hormone, Prolactin, and growth hormone.
Posterior Lobe located at the base of the brain and secretes oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone
Foramen ovale An opening in the septum located between the right and the left atria that allows blood to bypass the lungs.
Ductus arteriosus A small vessel connecting the pulmonary artery to the aorta, also allowing blood to skip the non-functional lungs
