Casual sex Sex with people we don’t love/ not committed to
hooking up Meeting someone for some causal sex outside of a romantic committed relationship
friends with benefits friends who have sex with each other for mutual benefit
serial monogamy Being in a serious relationship, breaking up, then going to another relationship #TheresOtherFishInTheSea
polyamory Intentional acceptance of having more than one romantic relationship
cohabitation Living with your partner, but you aren’t married
common law marriage when two people live together and say they’re married but aren’t actually legally married
civil union A relationship between two people that gives them similar rights to marriage but not it’s not the same as marriage (shared health insurance, shared property, legal recognition of their relationship)
living apart together being in a relationship but not living in the same house
same-sex marriage Legal marriage between people of the same biological sex
heterogamy marriage between two culturally different people (ethnicity, race, social class, religion)
homogamy marriage between two culturally similar people
winnowing hypothesis As we get older, we get more selective about who our partner is
dual income, no sex (DINS) couples who are so busy that they don’t have time for sex/ can’t cope with sex #damn
polygamy When a man marries more than one woman at the same time
adultery Cheating
